It is that time of year where there are often afternoon storms. If there is lightning in the area, we will be on a delayed dismissal. In the event of a delayed dismissal, we will communicate with you through Parent Square. In a delayed dismissal, parents must come to the office with a car tag or ID to pick up the student. Bus riders will not be released until the lightning has cleared the area. As a reminder, it is against the law to be on the phone while driving in a school zone, so please stay off of your cell phones for everyone’s safety, especially during arrival and dismissal. We continue to direct traffic as a courtesy. However, we will not continue in the traffic if safety measures are not abided by. We have already had several incidents in the car line. Safety is our top priority.
As a reminder, please return all emergency information forms and electronically sign all consent forms for your child. Also, please be sure to notify your child’s teacher if your child’s dismissal procedure will change.
Parents, please support us by ensuring your student is well-rested and has a nutritious breakfast to start the day. Remember, breakfast and lunch are free at school. Also, please ensure that your child comes to school each day and if they are absent, please provide a doctor’s note or a note from home. After 10 days of absence, you will need a doctor’s note to be excused.
We are excited to have the Accelerated Reader Program here at Hamlin. Please encourage your children to spend time reading their books at home and then taking AR tests.
Please continue to follow the newsletter for updates and photos. I am so grateful to serve such a wonderful community.
Don’t forget, there is no school tomorrow in observance of Labor Day. See you on Tuesday!
Best Regards,
Dr. Angela Murphy-Osborne
Principal

This is a friendly reminder that we do not have parents bring in outside fast food for student lunches during lunch time. |
The School Board of Orange County, Florida (Board) Policy JIC, titled “Code of Student Conduct,” in addition to Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes, requires the adoption of a Code of Student Conduct (Code). Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) has developed the Code to help students, parents/guardians, and school personnel understand the guidelines for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. The Code shall be discussed with students, school advisory committees, and parent/teacher associations at the beginning of each school year and quarterly thereafter and for transferring students upon their enrollment.
An electronic copy of the Code can be found online at the District website, on the OCPS app, or on OCPS school-issued devices.

Students are starting to visit the library at our school. Our library is an extension of the classroom at our school. It is a place where we share stories, build creations, work on digital projects and so much more. You will hear students working together, sharing recommendations, testing out robotics, and learning to love reading. During the students' first visits, we will go over library expectations, procedures, and book care.

Accelerated Reader is a digital program that helps students and teachers manage and monitor independent reading practice in both English and Spanish. Students pick a book at their level and read it at their own pace. When students finish the book, they take a short quiz on a computer/device to check their understanding. As students read and take quizzes, they earn points and track their progress toward their individualized Accelerated Reader goals.
All students in K-5 have the ability to use AR at school or home. You can access the program by using Launchpad.
In Launchpad, Click on Renaissance.
Then Click on Accelerated Reader
Type in the title of the book the student is quizzing on. Then Click Start Quiz.

Grade K-2 students can earn brag tags for completing badges in the program and for 9 passed quizzes on their reading range level each quarter.
Grade 3-5 students can earn brag tags for meeting their quarterly goals.
Our library does have several books with an AR quiz (those are the books labeled with a dot sticker on the side of the library book).
SSYRA Brag Tags are also passed out to those who take and pass an SSYRA book.
