A NEWSLETTER FOR HAMLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Dear Hamlin Families,

Last week, we celebrated Literacy Week with fun events like buddy reading, a book walk, reading activities and themed days.

I also want to congratulate all the students who had perfect attendance. I am super proud of you!! Attendance is so important to being a successful student. We also recognized all of our students who earned “A” Honor Roll and also A/AB Honor Roll. We are so proud of all the hard work that goes in to earning Honor Roll.

Best Regards,

Student Code of Conduct

The School Board of Orange County, Florida (Board) Policy JIC, titled “Code of Student Conduct,” in addition to Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes, requires the adoption of a Code of Student Conduct (Code). Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) has developed the Code to help students, parents/guardians, and school personnel understand the guidelines for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. The Code shall be discussed with students, school advisory committees, and parent/teacher associations at the beginning of each school year and quarterly thereafter and for transferring students upon their enrollment.

An electronic copy of the Code can be found online at the District website, on the OCPS app, or on OCPS school-issued devices.

Media Center Updates

January is the time to start the year fresh. What better way than to instill a love of reading at home! The Florida Department of Education has several initiatives to help create readers. "Studies show that it only takes 20 minutes per day to vastly improve a child’s reading ability. In one year, a child who reads 20 minutes a day is exposed to 1.8 million words" (FLDOE). You can visit the site to see some great activities and strategies to use at home.

Library Cards can open up a new door...
Did you know that any student or family member can apply for a free public library card online? Visit this link and the library will help mail a card to your home for use.
Get Free Library Card
Students with a library card can use many resources online from our local public library. They have great resources to conduct research, practice a new language, read eBooks, and much more.

Did you also know that you can request books online and the public library will mail them right to your front door? Families would then only be responsible to return the books by their due date to any Orange County Public Library. We have a return bin located in Hamlin here.

ADDitions

Hamlin Elementary is getting opportunities ready for volunteers to come in to help!  All volunteers will need an active ADDitions account and review all the Guidelines and Waivers provided by our OCPS district.

Being up to date in ADDitions helps the process of being a field trip chaperone, lunchroom helper, attending/participating in daytime events held at the school, PTO events, classroom volunteer, media center help and so much more!

Here’s how to sign up/update your ADDitions account:
Sign Up/Update ADDitions Here
  • Click "Sign Up” - Create a New Account / Answer the application questions
  • Login (if you're a returning volunteer) / Update your safety questions
  • Watch the ADDitions training video – located on the Main Dashboard

Opportunities Ready
Lunchroom help is needed!  If you are looking to help, we need volunteers who enjoy circulating the entire room to help students in all grades with opening items, passing out utensils and napkins, and reminding students how to continue to be the best Hamlin Huskies in the lunchroom. This is not just to assist one child or have lunch with your child.
