A NEWSLETTER FOR HAMLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Dear Hamlin Families,

I want to begin by congratulating our 5th graders who participated in the 4H Speech content. All fifth graders chose a topic and presented a speech. The top two in each classroom moved on to the school level competition. These students gave their speeches last week. They did amazing! Advaith was the school speech winner and he will continue on to the next level of competition.

I want to also congratulate Priyah C. She was our school’s spelling bee winner. We are so proud of her for all of her hard work, along with all of the finalists.

A few reminders:

  • Please make sure your child arrives on time each day—every minute of learning counts!
  • Don’t forget to notify your child’s teacher as well as the office if you want to make changes to your child’s dismissal plan.
  • Stay off of cell phones while in the car circle

We are grateful for our amazing school community and appreciate your partnership in making Hamlin Elementary a fantastic place to learn and grow. If you have any questions or need support, feel free to reach out.
Best Regards,

Media Center Updates

We are excited to announce that Hamlin Elementary is participating in the district-wide reading challenge, Let’s Read, OCPS! This challenge will run from January 26 to April 30, 2026, and will encourage students to read for enjoyment and develop a lifelong love of reading by contributing to the district-wide goal of reading 50 million minutes! All reading is encouraged and celebrated! We believe that giving students the freedom to choose what they read is the key to igniting their passion for literacy. All reading counts!

How it Works:
Each student's goal is to log at least 500 minutes of reading or 10 minutes daily into Beanstack. Beanstack is a free and easy-to-use app that can be found in the Library Research Tools folder on LaunchPad. Beanstack allows students to log their reading minutes, set reading goals, and earn virtual badges and rewards.

How to Participate:
  • Log through Launchpad: Open Beanstack in the Library Research Tools folder on Launchpad to track your students’ reading daily and even set a timer while they read!
  • Download the mobile app: Visit the App Store or Google Play Store and download the Beanstack app to your mobile device. Search for “OCPS Hamlin Elememtary” and find your school to join the challenge.
  • Username: Student ID Number
  • Password: student last name, lowercase
  • Start Reading and Logging: Encourage your child to read books, magazines, or articles and log all of their reading time on Beanstack, daily.
  • Join in on the Conversation: Discuss with your child what they are reading and who their favorite characters are. Explore new genres or authors together, and be a reading role model to them! Use the hashtag #OCPSReads on social media and post what you’re reading or how you’re participating!

By participating in this challenge, your child will improve their reading skills and have the opportunity to win exciting prizes. Let's work together to make this reading challenge a success!

More information about the reading challenge can be found at read.ocps.net.

Thank you for your support!

Bottle Cap Collection

We’re excited to share that our NEHS, STEM Club, and Green School Initiative will be creating a collaborative art project made entirely from recycled bottle caps. To bring this vision to life, we’re inviting students and families to help us collect clean plastic bottle caps of all sizes and colors.

We'll be collecting the bottle caps in the media center/library.

Thank you for supporting this project and for helping us teach our students the power of reusing everyday materials in imaginative ways.

Being up to date in ADDitions helps the process of being a field trip chaperone, lunchroom helper, attending/participating in daytime events held at the school, PTO events, classroom volunteer, media center help and so much more!

Here’s how to sign up/update your ADDitions account:

Opportunities Ready
Lunchroom help is needed!  If you are looking to help, we need volunteers who enjoy circulating the entire room to help students in all grades with opening items, passing out utensils and napkins, and reminding students how to continue to be the best Hamlin Huskies in the lunchroom. This is not just to assist one child or have lunch with your child.
