A NEWSLETTER FOR HAMLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Dear Hamlin Families,

I want to thank the dance committee, as well as the volunteers from our Girls and a Loved One event. A great time was had by all and it was absolutely stunning! Also, a huge thank you to everyone who attended the dance. Everyone had a great time and it was absolutely beautiful!

We have two more weeks in the third marking period and then it will be time for the final marking period of the school year. In the fourth marking period, students will take the end of year state assessments. It is crucial that all our students are present for instruction. When students miss instruction, even if they make up assignments, they miss the essential academic conversations, practice and modeling by the teacher. Your partnership in helping your child be present and arrive on time each and every day is appreciated. Please remember we only excuse three (3) vacation days a year and you must fill out the pre-arranged absence form prior to vacation to receive an excused absence. Attendance is so important every day for students to be successful. We also ask that you have your children here at school sitting in their seats by 8:40 AM each day.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Best Regards,

Dr. Angela Murphy-Osborne

Student Code of Conduct

The School Board of Orange County, Florida (Board) Policy JIC, titled “Code of Student Conduct,” in addition to Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes, requires the adoption of a Code of Student Conduct (Code). Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) has developed the Code to help students, parents/guardians, and school personnel understand the guidelines for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. The Code shall be discussed with students, school advisory committees, and parent/teacher associations at the beginning of each school year and quarterly thereafter and for transferring students upon their enrollment.

An electronic copy of the Code can be found online at the District website, on the OCPS app, or on OCPS school-issued devices.

Media Center Updates

We are excited to announce that Hamlin Elementary is participating in the district-wide reading challenge, Let’s Read, OCPS! This challenge will run from January 26 to April 30, 2026, and will encourage students to read for enjoyment and develop a lifelong love of reading by contributing to the district-wide goal of reading 50 million minutes! All reading is encouraged and celebrated! We believe that giving students the freedom to choose what they read is the key to igniting their passion for literacy. All reading counts!

How it Works:
Each student's goal is to log at least 500 minutes of reading or 10 minutes daily into Beanstack. Beanstack is a free and easy-to-use app that can be found in the Library Research Tools folder on LaunchPad. Beanstack allows students to log their reading minutes, set reading goals, and earn virtual badges and rewards.

How to Participate:
  • Log through Launchpad: Open Beanstack in the Library Research Tools folder on Launchpad to track your students’ reading daily and even set a timer while they read!
  • Download the mobile app: Visit the App Store or Google Play Store and download the Beanstack app to your mobile device. Search for “OCPS Hamlin Elememtary” and find your school to join the challenge.
  • Username: Student ID Number
  • Password: student last name, lowercase
  • Start Reading and Logging: Encourage your child to read books, magazines, or articles and log all of their reading time on Beanstack, daily.
  • Join in on the Conversation: Discuss with your child what they are reading and who their favorite characters are. Explore new genres or authors together, and be a reading role model to them! Use the hashtag #OCPSReads on social media and post what you’re reading or how you’re participating!

By participating in this challenge, your child will improve their reading skills and have the opportunity to win exciting prizes. Let's work together to make this reading challenge a success!

More information about the reading challenge can be found at read.ocps.net.

Thank you for your support!

Bottle Cap Collection

We’re excited to share that our NEHS, STEM Club, and Green School Initiative will be creating a collaborative art project made entirely from recycled bottle caps. To bring this vision to life, we’re inviting students and families to help us collect clean plastic bottle caps of all sizes and colors.

We'll be collecting the bottle caps in the media center/library.

Thank you for supporting this project and for helping us teach our students the power of reusing everyday materials in imaginative ways.

special times ahead, we're also looking forward to one of our favorite traditions - the yearbook.

Starting January 1, the regular price of the book will increase in cost to $30 for a softcover with option to upgrade to hardcover and can be ordered until April 3, 2026.

Don't miss out on this special offer! Yearbooks will be given out in May 2026.

ADDitions

Hamlin Elementary is getting opportunities ready for volunteers to come in to help!  All volunteers will need an active ADDitions account and review all the Guidelines and Waivers provided by our OCPS district.

Being up to date in ADDitions helps the process of being a field trip chaperone, lunchroom helper, attending/participating in daytime events held at the school, PTO events, classroom volunteer, media center help and so much more!

Here’s how to sign up/update your ADDitions account:
Sign Up/Update ADDitions Here
  • Click "Sign Up” - Create a New Account / Answer the application questions
  • Login (if you're a returning volunteer) / Update your safety questions
  • Watch the ADDitions training video – located on the Main Dashboard

Opportunities Ready
Lunchroom help is needed!  If you are looking to help, we need volunteers who enjoy circulating the entire room to help students in all grades with opening items, passing out utensils and napkins, and reminding students how to continue to be the best Hamlin Huskies in the lunchroom. This is not just to assist one child or have lunch with your child.
