A NEWSLETTER FOR HAMLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Dear Hamlin Families,

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the carnival! A huge thank you to PTO for hosting such a fun event and to all of our volunteers! Everyone had a blast!!

We are already in the budgeting and staffing phase of the 2026-2027 school year. If you have a current Kindergarten through fourth grade student and your plans are changing for the 26-27 school year, please email or call Mrs. Zimmerman so we can have our enrollment numbers as accurate as possible. This will help with determining classes for next year, as well as supporting an accurate ordering of resources and materials. Also, if you have an upcoming kindergartener, please register now.Ā Ā

Ā The month of April is going to be busy. In addition to lessons and activities, we are preparing for more testing in May. Please remind your child to do his/her very best both academically and behaviorally. We will be celebrating the students’ hard work at the end of May.Ā Our teachers are continuing to work with students to help them master all of the grade level standards and prepare them for the End of the Year FAST assessments. We can’t wait to see how each student has increased his/her learning from the Beginning of the Year Assessment to that End of the Year Assessment.Ā Ā

Finally, please take a few moments to fill out the OCPS Stakeholder Survey.Ā Your input is valuable to us.Ā It can be completed by clicking on the anonymous link:

Media Center Updates

We are excited to announce that Hamlin Elementary is participating in the district-wide reading challenge, Let’s Read, OCPS! This challenge will run from January 26 to April 30, 2026, and will encourage students to read for enjoyment and develop a lifelong love of reading by contributing to the district-wide goal of reading 50 million minutes! All reading is encouraged and celebrated! We believe that giving students the freedom to choose what they read is the key to igniting their passion for literacy. All reading counts!
Ā
How it Works
Each student's goal is to log at least 500 minutes of reading or 10 minutes daily into Beanstack. Beanstack is a free and easy-to-use app that can be found in the Library Research Tools folder on LaunchPad. Beanstack allows students to log their reading minutes, set reading goals, and earn virtual badges and rewards.Ā
Ā
How to Participate
  • Log through Launchpad: Open Beanstack in the Library Research Tools folder on Launchpad to track your students’ reading daily and even set a timer while they read!Ā
  • Download the mobile app: Visit the App Store or Google Play Store and download the Beanstack app to your mobile device. Search for ā€œOCPS Hamlin Elememtaryā€ and find your school to join the challenge.
  • Username: Student ID Number
  • Password: student last name, lowercase
  • Start Reading and Logging: Encourage your child to read books, magazines, or articles and log all of their reading time on Beanstack, daily.
  • Join in on the Conversation: Discuss with your child what they are reading and who their favorite characters are. Explore new genres or authors together, and be a reading role model to them! Use the hashtag #OCPSReads on social media and post what you’re reading or how you’re participating!
Ā
By participating in this challenge, your child will improve their reading skills and have the opportunity to win exciting prizes. Let's work together to make this reading challenge a success!
Ā
More information about the reading challenge can be found at read.ocps.net. Thank you for your support!
