A NEWSLETTER FOR HAMLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Dear Hamlin Families,

This week, we continue FAST testing. Tuesday, our 3-5 students are taking their ELA Fast. Then, they will take math on Thursday. K-2 has math on Wednesday. We will use this data from testing to continue to implement appropriate supports, interventions, and enrichment opportunities for the remainder of the year and next year.  Our students have been taught the standards all year and have worked hard.

We want to focus on keeping them calm and confident on testing days. Your support ensuring that your child is rested, has breakfast, and is present and on time for testing is appreciated. Due to testing, this Wednesday, May 6, is a long Wednesday and dismissal will be at 3:00 PM.

Also, it is important for students to get to school each day by 8:40 am. We begin instruction promptly and want our students to already be in class and situated. It makes the mornings much easier for the student, teacher, and class.

We want to thank PTO, as well as the many volunteers who made our staff feel so loved and appreciated during staff appreciation week. We also appreciate all the parents who donated items to make the week a success, as well as all of the cards, gifts, and well wishes from our families and students.

Finally, great job Mrs. Miller, chorus, and ukulele club. You were amazing at your concert last week!
Best Regards,

Dr. Angela Murphy-Osborne

Student Code of Conduct

The School Board of Orange County, Florida (Board) Policy JIC, titled “Code of Student Conduct,” in addition to Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes, requires the adoption of a Code of Student Conduct (Code). Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) has developed the Code to help students, parents/guardians, and school personnel understand the guidelines for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. The Code shall be discussed with students, school advisory committees, and parent/teacher associations at the beginning of each school year and quarterly thereafter and for transferring students upon their enrollment.

An electronic copy of the Code can be found online at the District website, on the OCPS app, or on OCPS school-issued devices.

School Garden

Hamlin Elementary won a grant for a small garden from the OCPS Environmental Compliance and Sustainability department.

Hamlin ES will be able to start our first pollinator/native plant garden. We will have our student clubs start it up this year and next year working with classes in multiple grades to help plant and maintain as an outdoor learning experience.

End of year testing is upon us, and we wanted to share some great testing tips for parents:
  • Have your students eat a healthy breakfast the morning of testing.
  • Wake up on time or early to make sure they are not rushed or late to school.
  • Students may not have any electronic devices during testing, that includes smart watches.
  • Encourage your children to take their time, show their work on, and use the strategies they’ve been taught.
  • Remind them the tests are to see how much they learned, and they are worth more than a score on a test.
A flyer announces a 'Red, White & Blue' appreciation week with events like 'Stars & Stripes Kickoff' and 'A Taste of America'.
We’ve had so much fun spoiling our amazing staff for Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!

We wanted to share our stars and stripes schedule with our families and thank all the volunteers who helped support our staff this week!

ADDitions

Hamlin Elementary is getting opportunities ready for volunteers to come in to help!  All volunteers will need an active ADDitions account and review all the Guidelines and Waivers provided by our OCPS district.

Being up to date in ADDitions helps the process of being a field trip chaperone, lunchroom helper, attending/participating in daytime events held at the school, PTO events, classroom volunteer, media center help and so much more!

Here’s how to sign up/update your ADDitions account:
Sign Up/Update ADDitions Here
  • Click "Sign Up” - Create a New Account / Answer the application questions
  • Login (if you're a returning volunteer) / Update your safety questions
  • Watch the ADDitions training video – located on the Main Dashboard

Opportunities Ready
Lunchroom help is needed!  If you are looking to help, we need volunteers who enjoy circulating the entire room to help students in all grades with opening items, passing out utensils and napkins, and reminding students how to continue to be the best Hamlin Huskies in the lunchroom. This is not just to assist one child or have lunch with your child.
